SAFAVIEH Area Rug 9x12 Natural Fiber Basketweave - Timeless Texture

Our review of the SAFAVIEH Natural Fiber Basketweave Rug finds it best for homeowners seeking an eco-friendly, textured rug that adds organic warmth to low- to medium-traffic rooms. The single biggest reason to buy is its authentic seagrass construction, which gives a rich, tactile basketweave surface and natural color variation that immediately warms entryways, living rooms, or dining areas. The rug is machine-woven for consistent patterning and finished with a fabric border and felt-dotted backing to improve stability underfoot.

Key Features

• Expertly crafted: Machine-woven seagrass fibers create a pronounced basketweave texture that lends visual depth and a natural feel to a room.
• Sustainable material: Premium plant-based seagrass offers an eco-conscious choice that still delivers durable, decorative flooring.
• Finished edge: A fabric border frames the rug for a cleaner, more polished appearance that helps define seating and dining zones.
• Stability underfoot: Felt-dotted backing increases grip and helps the rug stay in place on hard floors when used in low- to medium-traffic areas.
• Low-maintenance care: Regular vacuuming on a low setting and trimming loose threads keeps the rug looking its best while acknowledging natural shedding.

Who It's For

This rug is ideal for people decorating coastal, farmhouse, bohemian, rustic, or contemporary spaces who want a natural fiber look without bespoke handcrafting; it suits entryways, living rooms, bedrooms, screened porches, and dining rooms where low- to medium-traffic use is expected. Buyers who prioritize sustainable materials and textured, organic design will appreciate the authentic seagrass character and subtle color variation.

Shoppers who need a plush, soft underfoot experience for high-traffic family rooms or homes with active pets and heavy wear should look elsewhere, as seagrass is naturally firmer and can sprout or shed fibers. Also avoid placing the rug in direct sunlight, which can accelerate fading of natural fibers.

Pros & Cons

Pros

• Sustainable seagrass material provides organic texture and eco-friendly appeal.
• Fabric border and felt-dotted backing improve the rug's finished look and underfoot stability.
